Ancient trees
Barks gnarled,
Convoluted roots
Knotted and heaped up at the base
Lichen covered rocks
Nourishing microbial life
Aerial roots
Clutching clumps of earth
With striated fingers
Earth aroused and suckled
By pregnant clouds
Rivers impregnated by silt
Rock faces, hills and mountains
Pumiced and embroidered
With violent imprints,
Laying bare a texture shorn
Of unnecessary frills
The ancient sage
Sits cross legged
With Inward gaze.
Stylused on his forehead
And on his hands and on his face
Rivulets of time
