Surprise Me!

Rodrigo Campos - Alive-Dead

If life was a contest
Death would be the prize.

We live to die
What a misery!

All the money you’ve got
All the women you’ve got
All the men you’ve got
All the all you’ve got
Will vanish as you say goodbye to us
And hello to Hells and Heavens
Death is your final prize, whatever you do.

If life was a play
Death would be the happy or sad-ending.

We live to die
What a misery!

Why were you born?
Have you asked yourself this question?
It is just unfair to get a beautiful gift by chance
And have it taken from you the same way
It is just unfair to say it is yours
You being nothing but a marionette
Your arms, legs and head are free of strings
And yet you are free to write the speech
It is not you who writes the plot
Life is the most boring play ever
Everyone knows it ends with death.

If life was a train
Death would be the final destination.

We live to die
What a misery!

You know you’re getting there in the end
Sometimes you just want to get off
Although you try hard
You are nothing but a mere passenger
The decisions lie in the hands of the conductor
After all, you haven’t even paid for the tickets! Don’t complain!
You think you know where you are going
You’d better wonder where you are being taken to.

I don’t want to make any other analogy
I’m tired of thinking “What if…”
Hypotheses take your time
Hypotheses don’t take you anywhere
Life was not, life will not, life is
Death will
Will what?
Kill you
Don’t blame her for this
It is just her job
Don’t be afraid of her
She is as weak as you
At least you can stop living
On the other hand, she will never retire
She is as part of the contest, of the play, of the train as you are.

Yes, my dear
Neither you
Nor her
Nor me
Has a choice.

We live to die
What a misery!
