Covered by His righteousness alone
Hidden under the wings of His love
I find my protection and persistence
And thus layer by layer being purged
And this pruning and refining work
Here embarked to bid riddance to
This pile of dirt I hate to behold
This unsavory sight I can’t tolerate
Here to be excised and cleansed duly
And to present me before His face
Clothed in His righteousness alone
That I may withstand His refulgence
For all my best intentions and efforts
At my purest and most honest work
Are still but filthy rags before Him
