Mathur, is a developing residential area in North Chennai, a metropolitan city in Tamilnadu, India
Mathur is located in North Chennai with Manali in the east and Madhavaram Milk Colony to the South. Other neighbouring areas include Madhavaram, Kosappur, Kodungaiyur.
In the earlier days this area was a small locality comprising the villages Periya Mathur and Chinna Mathur. Later, when the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority(CMDA) and Tamilnadu Housing Board starting residential projects here the area started developing.
The arterial roads to Mathur are the Madhavaram Milk Colony Road and the Kamarajar Salai. This part of Chennai was considered socially backward a decade ago.However due to rapid increase in need for quality affordable residential areas in and around Chennai Mathur became a hunting ground for real estate agents. With the Inner Ring Road becoming functional the area was easily accessible from the Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus. Also, with MTC operating more buses from Mathur more people started buying houses in Mathur MMDA.
