Tensions rose in Ferguson, Missouri Monday night after a day of mostly peaceful protests.
Police fired tear gas and stun grenades at protesters after some threw small projectiles at them.
The protesters had gathered for another night of demonstrations over the fatal shooting of an unarmed black teenager by a white policeman.
The governor of Missouri had lifted a midnight curfew that had been in place over the weekend, but police were asking protesters to disperse.
Some protesters were taken into custody with police using a tactic that appeared designed to get them out of the area quickly.
Police would surround a suspect and while officers who formed an outer circle kept an eye on the crowd, those within the perimeter quickly controlled the suspect. The entire group would then move back behind police lines.
