Riding her tricycle
In the middle of the road
In a safety zone
That's what her parents were told
Happy as can be
Couldn't take the smile off her face
The innocence of a child
Still intact in her space
You come around the corner
Not looking ahead
Until your car feels a bump
And is splattered in red
You immediately jump out
Not knowing what to do
Her parents screaming
Hoping it wasn't true
As the ambulance races to the hospital
Taking her away
You sit in the back of a police car
Wondering what to say
As she makes it into surgery
You make it to the station
The police ask for your story
Growing more and more impatient
As you pull out your phone
The doctor looks at the screen
You show the police your text
The world feels a mother scream
Tears run down your face
The little girl is gone
Unintentionally you killed her
Because of driving and texting on your phone
