I can't get the image of
a little girl from my mind
deprived of her defenses
separated from her friends
threatened and beaten by those unkind
forced to suffer unspeakable pain
in a place where she is hidden
and yet for freedom reaching still
from across the great divide.
One sad little girl
arms outstretched for a hug
watches her freedom wane
as she crumples on her bed and cries.
Gutteral cries emitted in grief
she feels herself being raped
by cruelty beyond belief
and is so helpless
but to rant and rave.
Beaten by circumstance
awaiting her freedom to come
a helpless little girl
sees her future as dark and bleak
that she may as well be an experiment
floating in a jar...
