(“I don’t want to be a poet
and I don’t enjoy reading poems.
I read them when I feel boringness
to feel more boring and get to sleep” — Yodit)
Young Yodit has said it:
‘All poetry is boring’
So it does us no credit
What we’ve been ignoring.
The true use of verse
Is not to uplift,
Or inspire, which is worse;
It’s to make people drift,
Bored to death, into sleep
With monotonous writing
That makes counting sheep
Seem far too exciting.
So thank you, young Yodit,
For putting us right.
From now on it’s “Sod it! ”
No more shall I write.
