I recall in years gone by, a Christmas morning fair
Caroles playing, sparkling lights, excitement in the air;
'Neath the tree in wild array, packages galore
Spilling brightly colored wrap - a rainbow on the floor;
And over in the corner, a cradle made of wood
A special gift that I wished for - Oh, Lord - I HAD been good!
There sleeping 'neath the blanket, a curly headed doll
The one that I had dreamed about, my one wish, that was all;
I picked her up and cuddled her close to my rosey cheek
My heart so full of magic, that I could hardly speak;
Then off to bed my doll and I did scamper like a mouse
We snuggled 'neath the covers as the caroles filled the house;
A few more precious moments before the morning rush
My little doll, so sweet and small - don't cry now, baby -'hush';
The years have passed and I've grown up with children of my own,
And still that Christmas memory is the sweetest I have known.
