& beer gut
with one hand
while he types
and drinks
and jerks off
with the other.

sprawling
in stained,
rumpled,
stinking,
cots,
brawling in
downtown
bars,
delivering
mail
hungover
in crushing sun
in driving rain,
blatting out beer farts,
cornered in
bleak hot early
morning
rented rooms.
Buk
angry drunk
yelling
at
angry drunk yelling
whores.
Buk
sweltering,
drinking,
puking,
writing.
Part II: Il Paradiso
Buk
blown
by nubile
Dutch tourists
aroused
by his beautiful
ugliness.
Malibu movie stars
dropping by
Buk
to borrow
a smidgen
of raunch.
Buk
on his deathbed
in San Pedro
haunted
by
hallucinations:
Buk
his suppurating face
seething,
volcanic,
mocked or ignored
at Fairfax High.
Buk
whose Teutonic father
beat him
like a drum,
cashing
annual royalties
by the hundreds
of thousands
of Deutschmarks..
Buk
straining
to wake
the dead
no matter
how many
or
how loud
the demons
in his head.
