Berkeley protests turn violent

Tear gas and smoke bombs scattered protesters during a march that started peacefully in Berkeley, Saturday night.

Local media say protesters broke the windows of several businesses, others smashed ATM machines with hammers, and overturned garbage dumpsters.

The march was was organized by Occupy Oakland and other groups, to protest recent grand jury decisions in Ferguson and New York.

The decisions not to indict police officers in the shooting death of Michael Brown, or the chokehold death of Eric Garner have sparked protests across the country.

Local media say one officer was injured. Its unclear if any arrests were made.
