Last week in Heilongjiang, a province in northeastern China, this brave little boy rushed into a burning building in an attempt to save his crippled grandfather.
Haiwen said he’d just returned from school when he saw that his family’s home was on fire. His first instinct was to rush inside to save his grandfather. Pushing through curtains of fire, he found his grandfather collapsed on the floor of the living room, his clothing ablazed.
Haiwen’s grandfather instructed him to go find help. With his face and hands badly burned the little boy ran outside and screamed for help.
A few bystanders dashed into the building where they found the grandfather, who had dragged himself halfway to the exit. The rescuers were able to pull the grandfather out of the burning building.
Unfortunately, doctors were not able to save Haiwen’s grandfather’s life, he died shortly after being rescued.
Haiwen’s family has not told the little boy about his grandfather yet. They hope to keep the little boy’s hopes up while he heals.
Haiwen suffered 3rd degree burns to his face, neck and both hands. He has burns over 25% of his body and although he is young the healing process will be a long one.
Haiwen says he won’t cry because his grandfather told him that big boys don’t cry and he doesn’t want to disappoint his grandfather.
