Ecuador: Greater Acceptance for LGBTs in Society

Although discrimination and prejudice against LGBTs still exist in Ecuador, activists say the country's 2008 constitution incorporating protection for sexual orientation and gender identity was a major step forward and progress continues to be made. The adoption of the category of civil unions in April was another gain, although the battle continues for the right of gay and lesbian couples to adopt children. On Friday, President Rafael Correa met with LGBT activists to discuss what has already been achieved and what remains to be accomplished. Liz Scherffius reports from Quito. teleSUR
