USA: Low Minimum Wage Has Collateral Effects

At $7.25 an hour, the U.S. federal minimum wage has not seen an increase in 6 years. Already depressed and inadequate, it is further eroded by taxes. The effect on the rest of the economy is considerable, as low-paid workers have little disposable income. Within the U.S., 29 states have a minimum wage higher than the federal law, 2 below, and 5 have none at all. President Barack Obama has proposed raising the wage to $10.10 an hour, but has met stiff opposition. Bianca Perez reports from Washington. teleSUR
