25 years ago a traditional red telephone box was presented to Emmendingen as the official gift from Newark. Unfortunately, it was destroyed in a storm when a tree branch fell on it. A replacement was sourced in the UK and it was officially handed over by Town Mayor, Tom Bickley, and Chairman of the Twinning Association, Rita Crowe. The replacement had actually stood in Castlegate, Newark when it was operational. The presentation was preceded by a short display by our old friends the Hachberger Herolde who then led the procession from Theodor-Ludwig-Straße to the Markt Platz. On the way drinks were served by Krystal Grabbe, Emmendingen councillor and friend of twinning, causing a severe blockage down Kirchstraße.
