Three bits of debate advice each for Clinton and Trump Let's start with Hillary Clinton: 1.
Spend some time sounding positive.
It’s not enough to spend the entire 90 minutes demonizing Trump and warning that he can’t be trusted with the nuclear codes.
Clinton needs to show voters a warmer, more likable side.
2.
Beware the emails.
No defense will change any minds about her decision to use a private email account.
3.
Don’t take the bait.
There’s no telling what Trump might say.
Now some advice for Trump: 1.
Look the part.
Millions of people tuning into the spectacle will be getting their first sustained look at the celebrity businessman.
This is Trump’s chance to make a case that he looks and sounds presidential.
2.
Play to your strengths.
Voters value authenticity, and one reason Trump has gotten this far in the race is that he doesn’t sound like a professional politician reciting talking points with robotic precision.
3.
Target the voters you need to win.
Trump needs to remember a debate isn’t a campaign rally where he’s talking to an adoring audience of largely white, working-class voters.
Polls show he’s doing poorly among college-educated voters and minorities, so he must focus on addressing them.
