LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY — Smoke coming from a Samsung Galaxy Note 7 smartphone forced an airplane evacuation at Louisville International Airport on Wednesday morning.
Passenger Brian Green turned off his Samsung Galaxy Note 7 smartphone after he boarded the flight when the device began emitting smoke, Reuters reported. The phone reportedly became so warm that it burned a hole in the plane’s carpet.
The smoking phone prompted the crew to evacuate 75 passengers through the main cabin door. No one was injured during the incident.
Green’s wife explained to Reuters that he replaced the original phone two weeks ago following a message from Samsung.
Last month the company issued a worldwide recall of the devices due to faulty batteries causing some phones to catch fire.
