The world’s shortest international flight connects Altenrhein in Switzerland and Friedrichshafen in Germany, which are just across from each other on Lake Constanz. Flown by Austrian airliner People's Viennaline, the flight began operating at St.Gallen-Altenrhein airport on Wednesday. The 12.4 mile trip from the southern side of Lake Constance in Switzerland to the German northern side takes eight minutes and flies at an altitude of just over 3,000 feet. A single ticket costs €40, or $44. The trip from Altenrhein to Friedrichshafen takes around 60 minutes by car and twice as long by train.
