Why do I need a domain with my Affiliate Marketing Business?

If you’re in Easy1up or any company that provides you with a capture page and referral link to promote, you may be wondering “why should I buy a domain if I don’t have my own website?”.

There are actually lots of good reasons why not having your own domain is a total rookie mistake that you need to avoid!

1. Branding

A catchy domain name that represents what your business is about is a lot more memorable than a generic company affiliate link with your username or referral ID at the end. Having your own domain helps you establish your business as your personal brand, which in turn gives you more credibility.

2. Clickable Annotations

Once you’ve uploaded a video to YouTube, having your own domain allows you to insert clickable links to your page inside your video itself, using YouTube’s Annotations feature – this will be covered later in this course.

3. Control Over Your Traffic

THIS IS THE NUMBER ONE REASON! Owning your own domain means that you can decide where to point all of your traffic. All domain providers allow you to forward domains to any URL you want.

This means you can promote your domain in all of your
marketing and then decide where to direct all of the traffic that you receive. That way, if you ever decide to promote a different opportunity, or your main business shuts down, for example, all you need to do is change the forwarding on your domain. (this has come in handy for me often time over the years)

The best domain providers out there are probably GoDaddy and Namecheap. (Personally I use GoDaddy) You can usually pick up a domain for around $12/year or less and both of these providers have great customer service and tech support if you ever need help.

Another important point is that a lot of social media platforms, like Facebook, don’t allow the posting of affiliate links when there are loads of people promoting the same thing…so the only way to get around this, if you want to post your link in these sorts of places, is to do it indirectly via your domain – you just have to set up your domain to “Forward With Masking” to your affiliate link.
