She grew up in Homer, Alaska, "The Halibut Fishing Capitol of the World." Her family, the Kilchers, is featured in reality series "Alaska: The Last Frontier." She's a skilled yodeler. Her 1998 poetry book "A Night Without Armor" sold over a million copies. She lives at Lake Las Vegas a portion of the year.
