The theory that minorities are apprehensive about the possibility of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi becoming Prime Minister after the 16th Lok Sabha elections has been proved wrong in Kerala with constituencies with concentration of Muslim voters registering lower turnout in the polling held on Thursday than in the 2009 elections.

Pundits in Kerala had been saying that the 2014 Lok Sabha elections in the State might see Muslim voters coming out in large numbers to cast their votes for the Congress-led UDF, of which the Muslim League was the second biggest constituent, in order to contribute to the efforts for stopping the BJP-led NDA coming to power at the Centre.
