Union home minister Rajnath Singh on Monday cleared release of former Sikh militant Waryam Singh, lodged in Bareilly jail in Uttar Pradesh.
Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal had been urging both Centre and the UP government for his release.
Badal had written to his counterparts in Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Karnataka, Rajasthan and Gujarat seeking premature release of 13 persons convicted in various cases, including assassination of former chief minister Beant Singh on compassionate grounds.
