Newest 'Sesame Street' Muppet Has a Mom Struggling to Overcome Addiction.
Earlier this year, ‘Sesame Street’
introduced a new muppet, Karli, as
she moved in with her foster family.
The show has revealed the reason behind
Karli’s stay with her “for now” family:
her mother struggles with addiction.
'Sesame Street' created the character after data showed that almost 6 million children under the age of 11 live with a parent dealing with substance abuse problems in the U.S.
The statistics also inspired a new
online initiative by ‘Sesame Street’
that handles parental addiction.
