Budget papers have revealed that 2.4 billion dollars will be slashed from public hospitals over the next four years. The health minister mark butler says the funding change reflects a forecast reduction in the amount of hospital services expected to be provided. But the move isn't popular with medical staff who say it will only intensify the huge surgery backlog.
