Billy Max (né Charles Van der Stichelen) was a bandleader of Belgian origin who mainly worked in France, and who recorded several dozens of sides. This excellent selection was recorded for Gramophone in 1924. It should be noted that this tune was renamed "Charleston Dolly" when Tom Waltham & His Ermitage Ad-Libs recorded it in 1926 for the Pathé label.
