A stowaway chicken was rescued by road workers after clinging to the back of their lorry and surviving a 25-mile journey at nearly 60mph.
The hen hitched a ride from a depot in Hartwell, Northants., to Irthlingborough, unnoticed until a resident spotted it running loose.
Workman Luke Stinson shared his sandwich and water with the bird before safely returning it to the farm.
The crew suspects the chicken had been roosting near a hopper of road grit, with Luke remarking, “It’s done bloomin’ well to get here.”
