Syria's new government says it will form an independent commission to investigate clashes in the country's coastal region.
Violence has erupted in the heartlands of former president Basher al-Assad with a war monitoring group saying over 1,000 people have died - many of them civilians. Syria's new leader, Ahmed al-Sharaa, has called for peace and national unity.
