A damp start for southern England and the Midlands, with rain clearing from the far southeast by lunchtime. Brighter skies following for all areas, with frequent showers across northern and western areas in particular. Showers merging into longer spells of rain at times for western Scotland, and some producing thunder and hail and falling as snow over the high ground of Scotland.
