DepEd, Special Olympics Pilipinas sign MOU on inclusive sports
The Department of Education and Special Olympics Pilipinas sign a memorandum of understanding that will allow educators to teach inclusive sports and create training programs and competitions for students with learning disabilities. The partnership also makes the Philippines the first ever country in the Asia Pacific Region to be included in Special Olympics Global Coalition for Inclusion. Education Chief Sonny Angara believes that the partnership will allow students to learn the importance of inclusive sports and harnessing them to prevent issues such as bullying. Special Olympics Pilipinas Chairman and National President and former Olympian Gillian 'Akiko' Thomson-Guevara added that while the work ahead was huge, they were hopeful that the partnership with DepEd would be fruitful.
