Sotheby's showcases rare collection of Islamic arms and armors

A Sotheby's Dubai exhibit showcases a collection of Islamic arms and armors, assembled by scholar and collector Philippe Gilles René Missillier over approximately five decades. The centerpiece of the exhibition was the ‘World-Capturer’ sword, that belonged to Emperor Shah Jahan, the fifth Moghul emperor. Alongside the displayed weapons, the exhibit also showcased a series of water colored paintings by David Roberts while touring the Middle East in the 1800's, as well as Koranic manuscripts from the seventh to the 16th century. The collection together holds about 500 years of Islamic history and is scheduled to be later auctioned in London. Shah Jahan's sword is estimated to be sold for between 600,000-800,000 Pound sterlings ($776,081-$1,034,80), according to Sotheby's.
