Shocking aerial footage has revealed the devastation caused by wildfires that scorched a large area of moorland near March Haigh Reservoir, Huddersfield.

The blaze broke out at around 5:25 pm on Thursday, April 10, rapidly spreading across three square kilometers.

Fire crews, including 10 fire engines and specialist units, tackled the blaze, with assistance from Greater Manchester’s fire stations.

Firefighters used specialized equipment before leaving as nightfall approached.

The fire occurred during nesting season, and West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service urged the public to avoid lighting fires to prevent further wildfires.

This follows a similar incident on April 6 at Dovestone Reservoir, just six miles away.
