Surah Shura is the 42nd surah of the Holy Quran and has 53 verses. Surah Shura is one of the Meccan surahs and is the 62nd surah in the order of revelation that was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). It is the 42nd surah in the current order of the Mushaf and is in Juz' 25 of the Quran. Surah Shura has 53 verses, 860 words and 3521 letters. It is the third and twenty-third of the seven surahs of Surah Hamimat حامیمات) or Hawamim (حوامیم is a group of surahs of the Quran that begin with the letters Hamam. These seven Meccan surahs are: Surah Ghafir, Surah Fussilat, Surah Shura, Surah Zukhruf, Surah Dukhan, Surah Jathiyyah and Surah Ahqaf) that begin with the letters Muqattat. It is one of the Muthanna surahs, which is slightly more than Hizb. The date of revelation of Surah Shura is considered to be after the Ascension and shortly before the migration of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) to Medina. Surah Shura was revealed in Mecca. Why is this Surah called by this name? Surah Shura is named after its verse number 38. In this verse, advice is mentioned as one of the characteristics of the believers. This Surah is also called "Hum' Asq" because of its first verses. Like other Meccan Surahs, the content of this Surah is mostly about the beginning, the resurrection and prophecy. The main part of this Surah is about revelation and how God communicates with the prophets.
The virtue of reciting Surah Shura is that the angels send blessings upon the person who recites Surah Shura and pray for forgiveness and mercy for him.
