Balrampur, UP – May 5, 2025: Harendra Verma (25), a resident of Devarhana village in Gonda district, was brutally murdered in Juglikala village, Balrampur, while attending his brother-in-law’s wedding at his in-laws' home.
Harendra was allegedly lured away from the venue by Jitendra Verma, who, along with five accomplices, killed him by slitting his throat just 50 metres from the house. Evidence at the scene indicated a violent struggle. Police recovered the suspected murder weapon, blood-stained clothing, six mobile phones, and two motorcycles.
Seven people were arrested, including Harendra’s wife Uma Devi, her lover Jitendra Verma, and five others: Mukesh Kumar, Sachin Yadav, Akhilesh Yadav, Santosh, and Mukesh Sahu. Investigations revealed Uma and Jitendra had been in a long-term relationship and conspired to kill Harendra, whose marriage to Uma occurred against her will.
Balrampur SP Vikas Kumar formed multiple teams, solving the case within 24 hours. All accused were produced in court and sent to jail. Further investigation is ongoing.
Harendra’s family alleged they were not informed of the murder by his in-laws and only learned about it from villagers. His sister Geeta, mourning his death, said he was the family's only support after their mother’s passing.
