A tragic accident occurred on Monday at Roshanpura intersection in Bhopal, where a speeding school bus ran over multiple vehicles waiting at a red signal, killing a 30-year-old woman doctor and injuring at least four others.
The victim, Ayesha Khan, an ayurvedic doctor and intern at a local government hospital, was on her scooter when the bus hit and dragged her nearly 50 metres, killing her on the spot. She was wearing a helmet at the time. Ayesha, the only daughter of her family, was preparing for her wedding scheduled next month.
The bus, allegedly experiencing brake failure while descending the Roshanpura slope, first struck a motorcycle, then rammed into a taxi, three scooters, and two more motorcycles. One of the injured, 58-year-old Jai Prakash Lakhera from Nasrullaganj, remains in critical condition in a private hospital ICU. Others, including a cab driver and local workers, sustained varying injuries.
Police confirmed that the bus was over 15 years old and its registration had not been renewed. The vehicle has been seized. The driver and conductor fled the scene, but the bus owner has been taken into custody. A case has been registered and investigations are underway, including analysis of CCTV footage to confirm the cause—brake failure or driver negligence.
The incident caused heavy traffic congestion, which was later cleared by police with crane assistance.
