A section of the steel roof at New Delhi’s New Ashok Nagar station, part of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS (Namo Bharat) corridor, was damaged on Saturday due to a sudden windstorm and heavy rain.

The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has halted operations at the station as a precaution. It will remain closed to the public until safety inspections and repairs are completed. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported.

In its official statement, NCRTC said:

“Due to an intense windstorm on Saturday, a portion of the tin roof at the New Ashok Nagar Namo Bharat Station was damaged. As a precautionary measure, operations at the station were immediately stopped.”

A detailed investigation is underway to determine the cause and ensure corrective measures are implemented to prevent future incidents.

Currently, 55 km of the corridor (New Ashok Nagar to Meerut South) is operational with 11 stations. The full 82 km corridor is expected to be operational by end of this year.
