Charly Suarez recalls fight vs Navarrete
Filipino boxer Charly Suarez said the game plan in his title shot against WBO junior lightweight champion Emanuel Navarrete was to score a knockout win against the Mexican. Suarez said that after he inflicted a cut above the champ’s eyebrow in the sixth round, he started to go in for the kill but the referee stopped the fight in the eighth round and ruled that the cut was caused by an accidental headbutt and not by a legitimate punch.
Ricky Navalta, Suarez’s manager, believes a rematch with Navarrete is inevitable regardless of the decision on the protest he filed before the World Boxing Organization and the California State Athletic Commission.
