The Captivators was a name passed around between various studio aggregations in the late '20s and '30s. The jazz happy Brunswick label was behind releasing many of the group's sides, which are known for featuring some of the biggest names in swing music in various ensemble combinations whose leadership was often loosely-defined. Nominal directorship for many of these recording dates has been retroactively handed over to trumpeter Red Nichols (featured on the first photograph). The present record was made in 1929. Personnel included: Ed Bergman and Wladimir Selinsky, violin; Larry Binyon, flute and tenor saxophone; Treg Brown and Tommy Feline, banjo; Red Nichols, Mickey Bloom, Tommy Thunen, Charlie Teagarden, Ruby Weinstein and Manny Klein, trumpet; Rube Bloom, Arthur Schutt and Jack Russin, piano; Gene Krupa, Dave Tough and Chick Condon, drums; Jimmy Crossan, clarinet and tenor saxophone; Jimmy Dorsey, Pete Pumiglio and Alfie Evans, clarinet and alto saxophone; Benny Goodman, clarinet; Carl Kress, guitar; Art Miller, bass; Glenn Miller, Bill Trone and Jack Teagarden, trombone; Sid Stoneburn, alto saxophone, as well as Joe Tarto, tuba. This brilliant recording was made in 1929. The vocal is by Harold "Scrappy" Lambert.
