Japanese PM Marks Battle of Okinawa Anniversary, Addresses U.S. Bases

Marking the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Okinawa toward the end of World War II, Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru vowed to ease the burden of U.S. military bases on the island, which hosts over 30,000 American troops. Speaking at a memorial ceremony, Ishiba honored 200,000 people who died in the battle, including students and children conscripted by the Japanese Empire.
