Bareilly, UP – Tension flared in Gangapur village under Nawabganj police station after miscreants vandalised a newly installed statue of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar on Wednesday night. The act, caught on CCTV, has sparked outrage among Baba Saheb’s followers.
As per police, three youths were seen damaging the statue, which was installed without official permission on village society land amidst ongoing local disputes. By Thursday morning, anger spread as villagers discovered the damaged statue.
SDM, Tehsildar, and Inspector Rahul Singh reached the spot and assured action. A complaint filed by local resident Tarachandra also accuses the miscreants of using casteist slurs and issuing threats. Police have detained three individuals; further action is underway.
