Immigration advocates urge FIFA to bar ICE and CBP from World Cup events
Immigration advocates gathered outside FIFA offices in Coral Gables, Florida on Monday, June 30, to call on the organization to demand the United States government not use immigration enforcement agencies at World Cup events in Miami.
Miami is currently a host city for the 2025 Club World Cup and will also play host during next year’s FIFA World Cup.
Ahead of the start of the Club World Cup, US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) promised to be "suited and booted" for the opener in Miami, raising concerns immigrants could be targeted as they made their way to matches being hosted in 11 US cities.
