New Delhi, July 07, 2025 (ANI): AIMIM Chief Owaisi on July 07 warned that lakhs of people in Bihar could lose their citizenship and livelihoods if the Election Commission proceeds with its Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls without adequate time and safeguards. He also targeted BJP for spreading lies on Bangladeshi coming to Seemanchal. "We have requested the Election Commission of India to extend the date for this or put a stay as several people in the state do not have birth certificates, many migrant labourers and also due to the monsoon season. In the state, only 2% of the population holds passports, and the number of graduates is 14%. The poor people have no documents. During floods, many people have lost being documents and belonging. There is fear that people will not be able to vote,” said Owaisi. “...Even if 15-20% of people are missed from the list, they will also lose their citizenship......We are not against Special Intensive Revision (SIR), but time must be given…,” he added. “If someone's name will be removed, that person will not just miss his/her vote, but it is an issue of livelihood as well... Our only issue is how the Election Commission can implement such an exercise in a short time? The people will face this problem, and we have presented these issues to the Election Commission, highlighting the practical difficulties...,” he added. “BJP-RSS spreads confusion on Bangladeshis have come to Seemanchal. Where are they…Seemanchal is backward earlier and now also. BJP-RSS always says that Seemanchal area is becoming like this, then where it is. If there is an underdeveloped world of entire India, then it will be Seemanchal….,” he added.
