Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu — A tragic accident occurred at Semmankuppam near Cuddalore on Monday (07/July/2025) when a school bus was struck by a passenger train while crossing a railway track, killing at least two children and injuring four others, including the driver.
The horrific collision happened at a manned but non-interlocked railway gate between Cuddalore and Alappakkam, when the bus belonging to a private school tried to cross the tracks. The Villupuram–Mayiladuthurai passenger train (No. 56813) rammed into the bus, leaving it badly mangled.
Police confirmed that two students died on the spot, while three others and the driver sustained serious injuries. All the injured were rushed to the Cuddalore Government Hospital for treatment.
Authorities fear the death toll could rise as some of the injured are critical. An investigation has been launched to ascertain if there was any negligence at the gate.
