U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday (July 9) said African nations are going to lower their tariffs and that the United States treats Africa better than China does, adding that five African countries were unlikely to face U.S. tariffs.
Trump, meeting with the leaders of Gabon, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mauritania and Senegal at the White House, added that he did not think those countries at the gathering were likely to see any U.S. tariffs.
Trump also said he would release more letters to countries notifying them of tariff rates, including Brazil. Trump said the tariff rates announced this week were based on "very, very substantial facts" and past history.
