Srinagar (Jammu & Kashmir), July 14 (ANI): BJP MLAs staged a protest outside the Civil Secretariat in Jammu against the mandatory Urdu language requirement in the Naib Tehsildar exam. BJP MLA Shakti Parihar stated that Urdu was previously not compulsory, only a basic knowledge was needed. He mentioned that CM Omar Abdullah had earlier assured them that the issue would be rectified, but no action has been taken yet as the form submission deadline of July 16 approaches. Speaking to the media, he said, "All the MLAs of the BJP are protesting outside the Secretariat of Jammu. Urdu has been made compulsory in the test of Naib Tehsildar. In the past, in practice, Urdu was not made compulsory; only knowledge of Urdu was required... When we met CM Omar Abdullah, he assured us that he would correct this. However, the deadline for submitting the form is 16th July, and they have not yet withdrawn this rule. BJP won't tolerate if there is any discrimination based on language in Jammu... If nothing happens till the evening, then we will protest with the public."
