European farmers demand more funding in agriculture as Commission unveils budget
Hundreds of European farmers took to the streets of Brussels on Wednesday (July 16), demanding increased funding for agriculture as the EU budget proposed was unveiled.
Chanting "No budget, no CAP, no farmers, no security," the farmers dumped their boots in front of the European Commission building, just ahead of the unveiling of the 2028-2034 Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF).
The proposal has sparked anxiety among farmers, who fear reductions in subsidies under the EU's Common Agricultural Policy (CAP).
The proposal aims to triple the budget for migration and border management and to double the Horizon research fund, while 35 percent of the budget would be spent on climate and biodiversity.
