On Day 1,244 of the Russia-Ukraine war, Ukraine faced one of the most intense aerial assaults in months. Russia launched over 400 drones and 24 missiles overnight, striking key cities including Kyiv and Sumy. Civilians, including children, were injured and killed as attacks hit shelters and public areas. Ukraine’s air defences intercepted more than half the threats — but the damage was still severe.
As the war rages, international allies are stepping up. Norway and the Netherlands pledged support for Patriot missile systems, and French companies have begun producing drones inside Ukraine. Still, Kyiv faces a $6 billion defence funding gap.
Meanwhile, a new round of peace talks is set to begin in Turkiye. And in a symbolic move, Italy cancels a concert by a Russian conductor known for backing Putin.
