The United States had pushed for full liberalisation of equity in strategic sectors and a blanket exemption from import licensing requirements for US products, said Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz.
At a press briefing on Friday (Aug 1) regarding Malaysia's red-line, Zafrul said the US also requested the removal of excise duties on key items such as cars, tobacco, and alcohol, as well as the abolishment of import permits for US-manufactured vehicles—demands which Malaysia did not compromise.
