Family and friends of late Colombian Senator Uribe bid him farewell in Congress ceremony
Relatives and friends of deceased Colombian Senator and presidential hopeful Miguel Uribe gathered at the Congress building in Bogota on Monday, August 11, for a farewell ceremony.
Uribe, 39, had been vying for his party’s candidacy in the upcoming presidential elections but died two months after being shot in the head at a campaign rally.
He was from a prominent Colombian political family for whom the turbulence of the country’s recent decades twice became personal tragedy.
The attack was the worst outbreak of political violence in some two decades.
Six people have been arrested over the shooting, including two men who, according to the attorney general's office, met in Medellin to plan the assassination.
