GE Appliances announced a $3 billion investment to expand and modernize its U.S. factories over the next five years, according to The Wall Street Journal. GE said its investment will fund factory upgrades in South Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, and Alabama. The total also includes a previously announced $490 million expansion of its washing machine plant in Louisville, Kentucky. The investment will enable the production of new appliance models and create 1,000 jobs, according to the company. CEO Kevin Nolan said GE Appliances has always prioritized building near end markets, but tariffs influenced the decision to upgrade U.S. plants. Trump’s trade policies are prompting companies like Taiwan Semiconductor to accelerate U.S. investment to avoid potential tariffs.
