Are you a solo traveler or someone planning to visit Pettah Market in Colombo? — This video is for you. Welcome to Pettah Market —Colombo’s busiest and most colorful shopping area! 🇱🇰
— On my second day in Sri Lanka, I went out to explore Pettah Market. I started at the wholesale bag and shoe market, walked past Fort Colombo Train Station, and then checked out the roadside footpath stalls. Later, I went deep into the heart of Pettah, where things got really crowded and lively.
— This market is full of energy—narrow streets packed with people, loud vendors calling out prices, bright fabrics, fresh spices, and the strong heat of a sunny afternoon. Pettah is one of the oldest and most famous markets in Sri Lanka, located just outside Colombo Fort. It’s been a trading hub since the Dutch colonial era and still plays a big role in the city’s daily life.
— People from all backgrounds—Sinhalese, Tamil, Muslim, and Burgher—come here to buy and sell. Many foreign tourists also visit Pettah to shop for cheap goods and experience the local vibe. Each street in Pettah has its own specialty. You’ll find shops selling clothes, shoes, electronics, spices, fruits, vegetables, and even gold jewelry. Sea Street, at the end of Pettah, is known as Sri Lanka’s gold market.
— You’ll also see lots of street food stalls offering samosas, kottu roti, fresh juices, and tropical fruits. I ended my walking tour with a fresh green coconut for 200 Sri Lankan rupees 🥥—a perfect way to cool down after walking through the heat and crowds.
